Dora was here for the weekend and we used the Airport Rail Link 'City Line' Train for the first time, it was a dream. For Baht 15 ie less than HK$4 or US50 cents it takes only 30-minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport into the city, stopping at Praya Thai station of the BTS, 2 stops from Siam Central. It is not a direct train like the Airport Express in Hong Kong as it makes 6 stops along the way to pick up local passengers. The point is even with those stops you will be in the middle of town within half an hour as these trains run super on time. Like the Staten Island Ferry in NYC which people made reference as having cheapest fare, I am sure this airport transit service wins the prize for the lowest fare in its category. From Praya Thai one can get on the two well networked BTS lines or the underground trains. Taxi drivers in town complain about losing business to City Line already. Ty it on your next visit.
