UBER ALLES IN DER WELT

Here we go ... the twin heroes that led a landslide win for Germany, scoring 2 goals each. It is amazing, unthinkable in fact when Muller on the left scored 2 goals within 2 minutes in the first half. Brazil may find excuses in the fact that they lost a key striker to major back injury, and their Captain to a Yellow Card penalty but let us face it ... Germany played a text book game through and through, with a defense net that did not allow the slightest breathing space for Brazil. They won hands down with no ifs and buts, hands down.

The German National Anthem may carry the same notes but I understand the lyrics are different now, as the original words are just not sung anymore. To many, 'Deutschland Deutschland uber alles , uber alles in der welt' does bring back the chilly days of Nazism and the Third Reich atrocities but, today, on July 9th 2014 we must admit that Germany is indeed 'over and above everything in the world'.

Well done, really well done!

DO CRY FOR ME BRAZIL

Imagine you are the hosting team, going in with hope, dreams and fanfare, but ended up getting your butt kicked mercilessly in front of your compatriots ... 7-1 ... a world record of defeat in the history of the World Cup. As the Cantonese saying goes 'why bother to cry'? 'Crestfallen' ... that unique English word,  inundated with adjectives that begin with the alphabet 'D' : disappointed, dejected, dispirited, despondent, downcast, disbelief, desolate and of course, damn ... is most appropriate under these circumstances. The best shot shown on screen was that of an old Brazilian fan, seen clutching the replica of the FIFA World Cup, motionless, with quizzical eyes that beg the same question his 202 million countrymen are asking ' ... what the hell is this nonsense?' Well, the team was able to take solace in a single goal almost at the end of the 90-minute game, as shown, to which the National Coach made a face, to the bewilderment of the commentators. What was that all about? I wish it was not that brutal, for the host no less, on her home turf and yes, we should cry or at least shed a drop or two, for Brazil!

RED LITTLE HOUSE

Our New Territory foodie pals took us to this interesting home cooking haven somewhere in the middle of nowhere between Yuen Long and Fanling. It is owned and operated by a lady who supposedly was a well known 'Post Partum Nurse' before.

While my feelings on her professional background are less than enthusiastic, I was intrigued by what was served. The pictures are 1) a unique tasting soup of chicken wrapped in a pig's stomach, and 2) an open-grilled Ma-Yau fish, as in YoYo Ma, with loads of garlic, scallion and pepper, quite different and quite well done.

The rest of the dishes were run-of-the-mill and I am not 100% if you should go out of your way to visit. Then again if you are in the neighborhood of California Garden, I am told Red Little House is right by its main entrance. I have no clue as it was dark and tree lined local roads in the NT do look alike. I tried WOM and OPEN RICE afterwards but neither directory carries any record.
