STEAKS - STEAKS - STEAKS

Argentinian beef steaks are right up there on the meat charts, and it is a must for salivating tourists like us. La Brigada is supposedly state of the art so off we went last night for the 'Mother of Steak Dinners'.

We were not disappointed, it was meat, meat and more meat, beef rather, all evening. Our plates were loaded with Rib Eye, Sirloin and 'Secreto' ... a 3rd cut (shown on the left) that waiters were sworn to not disclose. Juicy, very tasty, a tad chewy this mystery cut kept everyone guessing right up to the bitter end, but to no avail, bribes in the form of tipping did not help either.

For openers we ordered a local specialty ... grilled baby lamb small intestines which came like the small round Danish at breakfast, with a totally unfamiliar taste which did not quite make it to my list of favorites.

Steaks are steaks and my bias is still with U.S. beef, preferably bone-in which is available again in Hong Kong after being banned because of the Mad Cow fiasco. Quality beef in a thick cut, ideally chilled not frozen, seasoned with salt & pepper, seared in high heat, pan-fry or finish in the oven, give it ample time to rest and voila ... a steak is born! It is that simple whether one is in New York, Chicago, Tokyo, Hong Kong or Buenos Aires. BTW the 2 bottles of Angelica Zapata we had from Malbec were well matched, affordable and very drinkable.
