Have you seen these two young cellists in action? They are sheer magic. I was playing with the program menu on the plane and was thrilled by this live concert at Arena Zagreb in Croatia on June 12, 2012. Stjepan Hauser & Luke Sulic are incredible musicians who are versatile in both the classics and the modern, arranging most of what they play. Starting with the traditional cello solos and duets they masterly and miraculously switched the tame audience on to rock concert frenzy ... using acoustic cellos, and backed by an extremely talented and powerful drummer, Dusan Kranjc. From jacket ad tie they changed to trendy black outfits, completing the metamorphosis with wavy, sweaty long hair and strands of broken strings from their bows. On the word go I was taken back in time, totally mesmerized by the very best of '70s rock from Jimmy Hendrix, Sting, U 2, Michael Jackson and later on Cold Play, AC/DC and the likes. It was sheer joy for an old-timer like me, who grew up appreciating both ends of the music corridor.
At the front end of the concert they were backed by the Zagreb Philharmonic, and its charismatic conductor. Their rendition of 'Gabriel's Oboe' from Ennio Morricone brought immediate tears to my eyes, from thinking of and missing Kaya.
